Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department at Hackensack University Medical Center has been awarded Certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) since 2000.  
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is designed for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions such as emphysema, bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, pulmonary hypertension or people who experience frequent shortness of breath.
People come three times per week for a supervised exercise program and educational classes using a multidisciplinary approach to improve the quality of their life.
Educational classes include:
  • Breathing Retraining
  • Nutrition/Healthy eating by a Dietician.
  • Medication review with a Pharmacist.
  • Oxygen Therapy and Respiratory Equipment 
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Pulmonary Diseases 
The Pulmonary Rehab Support Group meets once a month for people to share their feelings and experiences about living with their condition and educational presentations.
